It is not a big secret that advertisers sometimes use subliminal messages embedded within their commercials in attempt to make consumers want a particular product. Yet, many people do not understand how this is done and whether it actually has a real affect on what they decide to purchase.
A message that is subliminally displayed simply means that it is imbedded within a commercial, song, or other medium and is not intended for you to notice. The idea is that you will not consciously acknowledge its presence, but on the subconscious level your mind will get the idea loud and clear.
There have been many studies over whether this type of messaging actually works, and there is a lot of evidence now that it does work for people who are focused on a particular goal, as long as the message directly corresponds to that goal.
For example, if you are trying to lose weight it is possible that these type of embedded messages for products that promise to help you lose weight may actually affect whether you later decide to purchase that product or not.
It is not very clear how often these types of messages are included in advertisements and commercials these days, but it is assumed that it will increase in the future as more manufacturers catch on to unique and clever ways to slip in the messages whenever possible.
Some people also believe that various governments around the world have also used these types of messages to influence the population on key issues facing the nation. While this would be rather manipulative, chances are high that it would also be quite effective.
Yet, since subliminal messages are designed to go unnoticed even by the most observant among us, there is no real telling how often they are used to influence our everyday actions. Being consistently bombarded with the same product logo is how advertisers brand a product and make it familiar when you shop, but how often there are real subliminal words or images imbedded is unclear at this point.
